"The most important thing any conservative writer can do today is convince people who think that we’re perfectly safe that we’re not." Dean Barnett

The most important thing that any liberal/progressive writer can do today is convince people and conservative writers that we've never been perfectly safe (Yes Virginia, there have always been terrorists and stingrays and there always will be terrorists and stingrays) and the shallow idea that taking away rights and freedoms will make us safer is false, it just changes the threat to us from nut-jobs in caves to nut-jobs (right-wing christofascist corporate thugs. Mebbee even left-wing thugs, just not as likely) in our own govt. and authorities.
